EXISTENCE, NONEXISTENCE, THE ULTIMATE POLARIZATION
Humans’ greatest fear is not the fear of death but the fear of ceasing to exist.
Death: Death on this planet is embedded in fear, desire, ritual, horror, rules, concepts and most of all, beliefs. Working with issues around death means dealing with humans’ basic impulse to physically survive versus the fear of not surviving.
The body: Nature interprets survival as keeping the body alive and focusing on the continuation of the species. Intense impulses are built into the brain and body signaling the body to achieve this purpose. Therefore, body death is in direct opposition with our impulse to keep the body alive.
Control: Control is a primary component of generational, societal and religious death. We attempt to control what happens before, during and after death. We attempt to control and delay body death with potions, ritual, diets meditation, black magic, white magic. Most of all, we create mental constructs of an afterlife to control the fear of body death in this life.
Fear: Fear of the unknown, what happens after body death, is assuaged by attempting to create a belief in our continued existence after the body dies.
Our job as therapists is to help clients surpass all these conflicts. We help them transcend ‘beliefs’ in order to complete the past and resolve attempts to control the future, thereby giving our clients freedom in life as well as in death.
